Taste of the Kingsway Festival
September 10th and 11th, 2011
Saturday 11:00 am to 8:00 pm
Sunday 11:00 am to 6:00 pm
Market / Culinary Theatre
An exciting new taste to the Kingsway festival this year is a fresh food market, highlighted by a mobile culinary theatre and a Taste the Kingsway competition (see tab below for more info on the Taste the Kingsway competition).
The market, located on Wendover Ave., will showcase the economic and environmental merits of buying fresh to "foodies" and "locavores"and will include both local favourites (butchers, bakers, cheeses, meats, produce) and farm fresh vendors. As well, these vendors will supply many of the ingredients used in the dishes created and served by festival vendors - and to the celebrity chefs who will be gracing another exciting program - the Culinary Theatre.
The Culinary Theatre - a state of the art mobile kitchen and stage in one - is described by Jane Thompson of the Niagara Food Festival as "a food network tv set on wheels". Not only does it come with a fully operational kitchen for the use of our "demo-tainers", local star Chefs and Celebrity Chefs - but it also has a 360 degree camera that zooms in on all the slicing and dicing action and projects it up on two attached plasma screens. Prime Minister's Chef Jonathan Collins, Canada AM's Michael P. Clive and Rob Rainford (License to Grill) are already confirmed.
